Stress: Letting Go

When stress hits you, you have to hit it back – but in a cool and calm manner. Let us assume that despite all the precautions you have taken, you still find yourself in the middle of a high-stress situation. What do you do? Well, you have to let go of your stress and here are a few tips on how you can do that:

1. Take some time out and perform this exercise: Sit down on a chair with your back erect; place your feet flat on the ground. Now breathe deeply – but do not breathe in a labored manner – just be your normal self. When you inhale, get your shoulders up and when you exhale, relax your shoulders. Do this for two minutes or so, and while performing the exercise, don't think about your problems. Alternatively, you can lie flat on your back and perform this exercise while maintaining a still pose.

2. Focus on your behavior and ask yourself whether you yourself are the one that's causing the stress. People come up with startling realizations when they analyze their own behaviors, but most brush the analysis under the carpet. But you don't do that – if you are at fault and your behavior is causing the stress around you, then it's time to rectify yourself.

3. Don't be a workaholic – all work and no play makes Jack a dull and stressed out boy. Build in a variety of activities in your life: spend time with your family, read the works of great writers, hang out with friends, go for a movie with your family, exercise, engage in a hobby, play a sport, whatever. If you work all the time, you will soon turn into an irritable person who keeps haranguing others. Hey, you were delivered onto this planet to live a happy life, not conquer Mother Earth – so cool down on your busy work schedule.

4. Always think before talking or writing angry and hurtful words. Condemning language – written or spoken – can hurt others and cause you stress later on, and even ruin the strongest of relationships.

5. Avoid negative people, and if you are one, then reform.

6. Learn to handle stress calmly. If you are in the middle of a stressful situation every now and then, and such situations are not of your own making and are inevitable, then there's no point thinking about them. The best way is to take a deep breath, face them boldly, and focus on completing the task that's causing you the stress.

7. Learn meditation.

8. Give up on smoking and drinking, and don't imbibe too much caffeine.

This is how you can let go of stress and now it's time to let go of this article. Hope it helped – Good luck!
