Defeating Stress(Note to client: How about naming this article Avoiding Stress. The first article already dealt with defeating stress.) Stress thrills, stress chills, and then come the pills, followed by the kill. Yeah, a wee bit of stress can be motivating and put you in fourth gear when you are working towards achieving a set goal. But constant niggling stress, whether at workplace or at home, can destroy your health as well as relationships. So, you need to mow it down before it wrecks you, and here are some nifty tips on how you can bust your stress: 1. Plan ahead and allot some time for unforeseen circumstances. Once you plan ahead, you know what you will be getting into and your routine will be logically structured. 2. Keep things ready in advance – example: set the breakfast table before you sleep, put out your wardrobe for the next day, etc. Don't do things at the nth hour. 3. Take small precautions like starting 15–20 minutes early, making duplicates of all keys and storing them in a convenient place, keep your household appliances in top shape, writing down everything and leaving nothing to memory, etc. 4. Never procrastinate – do now what you have to do today evening, do today evening what you have to do tomorrow. 5. Always make Plan B just in case Plan A goes wrong. 6. Do not smoke, drink alcohol only in moderation, and drink decaffeinated coffee. Caffeine takes you on a high and makes your nerves jittery. Also, avoid so-called energy drinks and sodas as they are high on stuff that makes your heart go on the Formula 1 track. 7. Don't accept things at face value, ask questions. You can devise practical shortcuts to a job only when you know everything about it. 8. Always simplify tasks – don't overdo them or complicate matters. Do not seek to be a perfectionist. 9. Avoid things/events/places/situations that hassle you. 10. Learn some light deep breathing and yoga exercises. 11. Don't allow your colleagues and friends to take you for granted. 12. Take as much work as you can do – nothing less, nothing more. 13. Don't set very rigid standards for yourself – remember, you are a human, not superman. 14. Don't move in the company of negative people – create a social circle of happy people whom you can rely on. 15. Gets lots of sleep – 8 hours daily! 16. Don't bottle up any problems inside you. Be truthful and speak them out. Sort them out once and for all, instead of remembering them and holding grudges against someone. 17. Exercise regularly, on a daily basis. Understand that life is already short and there is no point shortening it further by stressing yourself out. So go get some relaxation, buddy – you need it!
