Take A Chill Pill... 5 Foods That Help Ease The Stress

Today's life is filled with stress, everyone is hurrying. Self checkouts at the store so people do not have to wait in line, fast food where you are in and out with your meal in less than 5 minutes and e-mail instead of postal mail are all part of our lives. Rising stress levels as a result of this hectic and busy lifestyle are also part of our lives and are resulting in violence, illness and premature aging.

There are dozens of ways that you can help reduce, ease or eliminate the stress out of your life. One of these ways is through things you eat. There are foods out there that can help you to battle stress and provide your body with what it needs to handle stressful situations. It is a well known fact that good nutrition can help the body to work more effectively and to be fueled for when stressful situations come up. Working with a mind and body that do not have what they need to work properly only adds to stressful situations.

When you are feeling stressed instead of grabbing a candy bar try grabbing something with more protein such as yogurt or cheese. While they may not be as quickly satisfying as the candy bar or chocolate that is often used to relieve stress they do provide longer lasting fuel for the body which in turn reduces the amount of stress you feel.

Complex carbohydrates are also something to consider such as apples or carrots. They provide a quicker boost than you get from protein and can help satisfy the sweet or sugar need that often comes with stress without being bad for the body. These are also complex carbohydrates so they tend to last longer than the quick satisfaction that comes from junk food.

Nuts are also another good food for helping to reduce stress they contain omega fatty acids that provide the body with extra nutrients it needs but rarely gets. They can provide a quick boost that not only will help you to relieve stress but will also provide a wonderful set of benefits for your overall health. You can even add things like Flax seed to salads and yogurt to get a double boost of stress fighting foods.

The last two foods or things that you can use to ease stress are the ones you should use the least. These are caffeine based products and chocolate. These two items should be used as infrequently as possible but can be used to decrease the feeling of stress by giving you a quick boost of energy. The energy will not last however and be prepared for a let down feeling that comes from using simple sugars. Caffeine work well as well for providing a way to ease stress, it can have side effects though so should be used sparingly. It is not designed to replace the relief that comes from eating correctly. Stress can be greatly reduced if you get enough sleep and eat right.
