Lets face it: Rush hour traffic is not fun for anyone. There is not a single person in the world who enjoys being stuck in bumper to bumper while counting the minutes before an important meeting is set to begin, or wondering when the caffeine withdrawal will kick in once the coffee has run out. Following rush hour traffic, do you find yourself feeling queasy and headachy, with your blood pressure rising through the roof? The stress associated with rush hour traffic may be getting to you, taking a significant toll on your health in the process. Rush hour traffic and all that is involved with it may be causing significant physiological and psychological effects beyond what you would normally imagine. Luckily, there are a number of things that you can do to better handle the stressful commute. Here are some great ways to thrive while driving.

Prepare for your commute in advance - Prepare everything the night before and you may be able to lessen the strain associated with road range. Prepare your briefcase, your clothes, documents, and even your lunch. This way you can avoid the main morning rush, and have plenty of time in the morning to conduct all of your morning routines while still avoiding congestion on the road.

Sleep well and wake up on time - Rejuvenate your body by getting a good night of rest, and rise early when you can. This cycle will improve as getting up early will put you to bed early, which will allow you to get up early again with less stress. The earlier you rise, the more likely you will be to avoid bumper to bumper rush hour.

Shake up your work schedule - If you can avoid the natural 9 to 5 schedule, do so. Can you tackle a 10 to 6 instead, or even a 12 to 9? Shifts like this will allow you to avoid the roads when so many others are using them, which will reduce a great deal of the stress associated with road rage and packed freeways.

Consider a Ride Share - Carpooling is well worth the effort if you can find co-workers who live in your area. Studies have shown that ride sharing can lower the stress associated with commuting significantly, plus there is less air and noise pollution for you to deal with, and a great deal less traffic congestion for you to deal with.

Find ways to entertain yourself - Make good use of your time during the stop and go traffic moments if you simply cannot find a way to avoid them. Do you like literature? Consider renting books on audio cassette or CD to listen to while on the road. Bring some of your favorite music along as well. There are plenty of things that you can do in the car while the traffic is tied up so that you are not simply wasting your time being stressed out or angry about the traffic.
